A pen and ink elevation of one of the entrance towers or gopurums to the Sri Ranganathaswamy temple at Srirangam in Tamil Nadu. Scale given below. This is one of three related architectural drawings in the Royal Collection (see also RCINs 930165 and 930167) drawn in pen-and-ink and wash by local south Indian draughtsmen in the service of the East India Company. They were commissioned by Colin MacKenzie, the first Surveyor-General of India as part of the Company's project to survey the ever-expanding area of Southern India under British rule.
