An illustrator's drawing showing the royal tea tent at the Garden Party at Buckingham Palace held to celebrate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. Queen Victoria is seated in the royal tea tent with the Empress Frederick, and behind her, the Princess of Wales. The Prince of Wales stands on the left. Two small inset drawings are also included on the sheet. These depict the papal envoy at upper right, and the Queen's Boatmen at lower left. The drawing was reproduced in the Daily Graphic on 30 June 1897. The drawing is signed, with initials in monogram, and inscribed H Johnson / At the Garden Party 28.6.97.
The Buckingham Palace Garden Party was the last state function held in London in celebration of the Queen's Jubilee. The state and reception rooms in the Palace were also open to the guests. -
