A drawing of Castello and the island of San Pietro in Venice. The church of San Nicolò da Bari is on the left of the composition. Two figures are shown sitting on the mud-flats in the foreground.
The view (identified by Pignatti, 1963) looks north from the Punta di Sant’Antonio towards the buildings of Castello and the island of San Pietro. To the left are the belltower and pediment of San Nicolò da Bari, with the square tower of Sant’Antonio closer to the viewer (both churches have been demolished); at the centre, the roof of San Giuseppe, with the pointed tower of Sant’Anna (also demolished) in the distance. To the right are the tower and dome of the cathedral of San Pietro, with the buildings on the Fondamenta Castel Olivolo jutting into the lagoon.
