A photograph of a drawing in the Royal Library, Windsor (RCIN 909571) which bears some resemblance to elements of the decoration of the vault of the tenth bay of the Loggia, designed by Raphael and executed by his workshop (c.1517-19) in the Vatican. Annotated on verso.
The drawing reproduced in this photograph is contained within the so-called Vittoria album (RCIN 970359), which comprises a group of drawings which were in the collection of Spanish painter and printmaker Vincenzo Vittoria (1650-1712). Many of the drawings in this album, though not this particular one, are by Pietro Santi Bartoli.
The repeating sequence of decoration in the Logge - see Dacos 2008 (Bibliographic References) for more information - is strongly influenced by the antique; Raphael had studied antique sculpture and painting in Rome.Provenance
