A facsimile etching reproducing (in reverse) a drawing formerly attributed to Raphael then belonging to the collection of Mr Mead. The drawing, now in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford (inv. no.WA1846.284), is no longer thought to be an original by Raphael, but rather a copy after his figure of the woman carrying two water-jars painted inthe lower right foreground of the fresco of The Fire in the Borgo, executed in the Stanza dell'Incendio in the Vatican in c.1514. Lettered with etcher's initials in the lower right corner. Trimmed along all edges. Date (1734) cut off. Included in Prints in Imitation of Drawings, a series of seventy facsimiles by Pond and Knapton after Old Master Drawings published in 1735. A photograph of the drawing can be found at RCIN 852835.
