A photograph of a drawing by Raphael (c.1512) now in the Royal Library at Windsor Castle (RCIN 912735). The drawing is a life study for the Resurrection of Christ, a project frequently connected with the decoration of the Chigi Chapel in Santa Maria del Popolo, Rome. Raphael used the figure in the Windsor drawing in mirror-image for one of the soldiers in his fresco of The Liberation of St Peter, painted in the Stanza di Eliodoro in the Vatican with the collaboration of his workshop artists. For further discussion, see Bibliographic References.
This drawing features studies of cattle on the verso, see RCIN 854512 for a photograph of the verso. A photograph of this drawing was included in the section 'New Testament Subjects' of the Raphael Collection: see RCIN 850480 for it.Provenance
