A print after a drawing currently housed in the Devonshire Collection, Chatsworth House (inv. no.90), formerly ascribed to Raphael and now generally attributed to Giulio Romano. Lettered with production details and old attribution to Raphael. Ruland (1876) attributed the drawing to Andrea del Sarto. Two photographs of the original drawing can be found at RCINs 851319, 851320.
The print shows the Virgin sitting on the lap of St Anne, while supporting the Christ Child on her knees with both hands; the Child reaches for St Joseph who leans over a wheeled walking frame at left.Provenance
