A photograph of a drawing formerly attributed to Raphael now in the British Museum, London (inv. no.1900-8-24-115). The drawing is a copy after a study by Raphael drawn on the verso of a sheet now in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford (inv. no.WA1846.162v).
The British Museum houses another copy of the drawing (inv. no.1895-5-19-623). Other copies are in the Royal Library, Windsor Castle (RCIN 912741) and in the Musée du Louvre, Paris (inv. no.3857).
The photograph shows the full-length Virgin, seated to the left, holding the Christ Child on her lap and supporting Him with both hands. The Child looks down at the Infant Baptist who sits on the ground at right and is seen from behind.Provenance
