Etching | 13.5 x 8.4 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 851245
-
This print is a repetition of an engraving by Marcantonio Raimondi dated c.1515 thought to have been based upon a lost design by Raphael dating from c.1507-08; in reverse, lacking the figure of St Joseph and with a slightly altered background. Signed with monogram at upper right (see Nagler, III, nos.2502, 2503). An impression of Marcantonio's engraving can be found at RCIN 851242.
The print shows the three-quarter length seated Virgin suckling the Christ Child whom she holds on her lap; in an interior with a curtain draped behind them and a window on the right.Provenance
