Albumen print | 28.6 x 20.2 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 851123
-
A photograph of the so-called Northbrook Madonna, a painting formerly in the Collection of Lord Northbrook and now in the Worcester Art Museum, Worcester (inv. no.1940.39). The painting has been previously attributed to Raphael, an opinion no longer shared by modern scholars. However, it has been recently suggested that the invention of the composition may be by Raphael (Joannides 1983, under no.108r).
Showing the seated Virgin supporting the unclothed Christ Child with her right arm, who stands on her knee clutching one of Her mother's fingers while looking down to the left; in a landscape.Provenance
Acquired for the Prince Consort's Raphael Collection (c.1853-76)
