A photograph of a tracing executed by Passavant from a painting listed by Ruland (1876) as being then in the possession of the Countess Lucia Fabrizi, Terni (probably ex-collection Countess Anna Alfani, Perugia).
An original panel by Perugino with this composition is believed to have existed and has been variously identified with one of the several extant versions. The composition corresponds closely to the central motif of the Virgin and Child in the Decemviri Altarpiece, a work by Perugino now in the Pinacoteca Vaticana, Vatican City (inv. no.224).
Showing the seated Virgin supporting the Christ Child with both hands, who stands on her knee and clutches at the bodice, with winged cherub heads on either side.Provenance
Acquired for the Prince Consort's Raphael Collection (c.1853-76)
