Stipple | 38.6 x 28.1 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 851097
-
A print reproducing a composition generally attributed to Raphael, for a very similar drawing of this subject attributed to the master survives in the Louvre (inv. no.3949); reproduced in reverse, in an oval. Lettered with production details.
It has been suggested that an original painting by Raphael with this composition was intended, but it may have never been executed or might have got lost.
Showing the full-length seated Virgin holding the Christ Child on her lap with both arms, with the crouched St Elizabeth and the Infant Baptist presenting the Child with a bird on the right; in a landscape with a pyramid in the background.Provenance
