A print reproducing (in reverse) the composition of the so-called Madonna del Passeggio, a painting generally attributed to the workshop of Raphael after a design by the master (c.1518-20), currently on loan to National Gallery of Scotland, Edinburgh (inv. no. NGL 064.46) from the Duke of Sutherland Collection. Lettered with production details. Trimmed along all edges. Published in Galerie du Palais Royal, Paris 1768-1808.
The text lettered below the image (which has been cut out from this impression) indicates that the painting has been in the collections of the Duke of Urbino and King of Spain. It has been suggested that this information may refer to a different painting (see A. Weston-Lewis in Raphael. The Pursuit of Perfection, 1994, no.40).
Showing the full-length Virgin holding the Christ Child with her left hand and putting her right on the head of the Infant John the Baptist, who approaches them on the left holding a cross staff, with St Joseph in the left middle-ground; in a landscape.Provenance
Added to the Prince Consort's Raphael Collection (c.1853-76)
