A photograph of a painting formerly in the possession of Card. Mazarin, later in Dusseldorf (according to an annotation in the master copy of Ruland's Raphael Collection catalogue kept in the Royal Library at Windsor Castle). Not included in Ruland (1876).
The painting is an old replica of the so-called Small Holy Family, a painting now in the Musée du Louvre (inv. no.605) generally attributed to the workshop of Raphael (probably Giulio Romano) after a design by the master (c.1518-19). A photograph of the Small Holy Family can be found at RCIN 851054.
Showing the full-length seated Virgin supporting the Christ Child who stands on His cradle and reaches for the Infant Baptist, who is kneeling on St Elizabeth’s thighs and leans over towards the Child; in a landscape.Provenance
