Head of a woman c.1840-1876
Lithograph | 28.3 x 21.4 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 851011
-
A facsimile of a drawing formerly in the Wicar Museum, Lille, and now in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Lille (inv. no.487). The drawing connects with the figure of the Virgin in the so-called La Perla, a painting now in the Museo del Prado, Madrid (inv. no.301) generally ascribed to Giulio Romano (c.1518-19), possibly after a design by Raphael. The drawing reproduced in this print is now generally thought to be a copy after either a preparatory drawing/cartoon for the painting, or after the painting itself. For a photograph of the painting, see RCIN 851004.
Showing the head and shoulders of a woman, with a cloth wrapped around her head, looking down to the left.Provenance
Added to the Prince Consort's Raphael Collection (c.1853-76)
