A print after a painting then in the possession of J. Purling, Esq., to whom the plate is dedicated. Lettered with production details. The painting is a copy of the so-called Madonna della Tenda, a picture by Raphael (c.1513-14) now in the Alte Pinakothek, Munich (inv. no.WAF 797).
Showing the half-length seated Virgin holding the Christ Child on her lap who is turning His head back toward the Infant Baptist, who is standing behind at right looking at the Virgin with clasped hands; before a curtain.Provenance
