This facsimile reproduces a print which is attributed on plate to Raphael and was catalogued by Ruland (1876) as being then in the 'collection at Madrid'. Published in El Arte en España (blind stamp, upper centre).
The composition closely resembles (although in reverse) an engraving by Marcantonio Raimondi described as after a drawing by Raphael related to his paintings of the Madonna di Foligno and Madonna Sistina. An impression of Marcantonio's engraving can be found at RCIN 850942.
