The sketch reproduced in this photograph is copied from Michelangelo’s Taddei Tondo, a circular relief sculpture now housed in the Royal Academy of Arts, London. Ruland (1876) did not describe this drawing as a copy after Michelangelo and associated it with Raphael’s Bridgewater Madonna (c.1507) currently on loan to the National Gallery of Scotland, Edinburgh (inv. no.NGL 065.46) from the Duke of Sutherland Collection.Provenance
