A photograph of a study sheet by Raphael now in the Uffizi, Florence (inv. no.496 E v). The drawing features several studies for Virgin and Child compositions. Ruland (1876) connected this sheet with Raphael’s so-called Bridgewater Madonna (c.1507), a painting then in the collection of the Earl of Ellesmere, London, and currently on loan to the National Gallery of Scotland, Edinburgh (inv. no.NGL 065.46), from the Duke of Sutherland Collection. See RCIN 850895 for a photograph of this painting.
This drawing is on the verso of a sheet depicting various figure studies: see RCIN 851688 for a photograph of it.Provenance
