Engraving with etching | 40.4 x 33.3 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 850744
-
An engraving reproducing the composition of Raphael's so-called Madonna dei Garofani (or Madonna of the Pinks), a painting currently in the National Gallery, London (inv. no.NG 6596).
It has been suggested that this engraving may be based upon a print of the same subject (although in reverse) by Jean Boulanger, with the addition of a convent seen in bird’s eye view at upper right. An impression of the engraving by Boulanger can be found at RCIN 850642. For further discussion, see Bibliographic References.
Showing the seated Virgin holding the Christ Child seating on a cushion on her lap and captivating his attention with some pinks; in an interior with a view on a landscape.Provenance
