A photograph of a painting by Raphael which Ruland (1876) catalogued as being then in the collection of Mrs Dawson, now in the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston (inv. no.P16e3). Published in September 1857, London.
The painting is one of the three panels forming the predella of Raphael's so-called Colonna Altarpiece, painted in c.1504-05 for the Nunnery of Sant’Antonio da Padua, Perugia. The central panel of the altarpiece and the surmounting lunette are now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (see RCIN 850667 for a photograph of the painting)
Showing the dead Christ lying on Mary’s lap and being supported by St John with Mary Madgalene crying at His feet; behind them are Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus.Provenance
