A hand-coloured print of Napoleon's life in three stages. In the first (What I Was-A Cruel Tyrant), he stands triumphant wearing a crown and holding a sceptre and orb whilst crowns from the defeated heads of Europe lie at his feet. In the second (What I am-A Snivelling Wretch) he sits sobbing on the Isle of Elba. In the final design (What I ought to be-Hung for a Fool) he is suspended from a gibbet wearing a pair of ass's ears. Inscribed in the plate: Rowlandson del / Pub[lishe]d May 1st 1814 by R Ackermann No 101 Strand
