A hand-coloured print produced to celebrate the French defeat at the battle of Leipzig. This print, a parody of Henry Fuseli’s painting The Nightmare, shows Napoleon lying in a state bed, with a Dutchman sitting on his chest and blowing smoke into his face. The Netherlands had been under Napoleon’s control since 1806, but had regained independence after the Battle of Leipzig in 1813. ‘Orange Boven’, or ‘Orange on Top’ is a traditional Dutch chant referring to the House of Orange. Inscribed in the plate: Pubd Novr 29 1813 by R Ackermann No.101 Strand
