-
A pair of small rectangular pier tables of gilt wood with rounded front corners, each with a marble top. Carved and gilt frieze with blind fret work, the front legs carved as winged dragons resting on bird's claws. Back legs formed of flat gilt supports. On rectangular black marble base with brown veins.
Perhaps made by Tatham, Bailey and Saunders who created a number of similar tables with dragon supports for the Banqueting Room, Brighton Pavilion.Provenance
Benajmin Jutsham, the Prince of Wales' Inventory Clerk at Carlton House records delivery of two pier tables on 1 February 1811. They appear in one of the watercolour images of the Rose Satin Room (922181) at Carlton House, c.1818; they were subsequently sent to the Royal Pavilion at Brighton in 1819.
