-
An etching of Hampton Court Palace from the garden side. Proof state, with no title. Inscribed in pen and ink 'Barthelemy Roque fecit Londini Le 3 Demar 1738'. The Swiss-born Barthélémy de La Rocque worked mainly in Mannheim and Copenhagen. The plate is based on Jacques Rigaud's etching Prospect of Hampton Court, published in 1736 (RCIN 702880). A drawing for Rigaud's plate is in the British Museum (1860,0714.40). Rigaud was in England in 1734 and 1736-7. His etchings, with their deep perspectival views, were widely imitated in England in the 1740s.
