  • An etching of the back of the Cassina, Serpentine River and Cascade in the gardens of the Earl of Burlington at Chiswick. Lettered below in English and French with the title and publication line 'Sold by T. Bowles in St Paul's Churchyard, John Bowles & Son, at the Black Horse in Cornhill, Robert Sayer at the Golden Buck in Fleet Street & John Ryall at Hogarth's Head in Fleet Street'.

The print shows the stream or Bollo Brook that bordered the Chiswick estate and was widened in 1726-7. It was landscaped in 1737 to create a more 'natural' serpentine river. The 'Cassina' (little house) was designed by Lord Burlington in 1717, and the Cascade was erected in 1738. The print is one of a set of six views of the gardens at Chiswick House first issued by John Tinney in 1753. The set was reissued in about 1760-66, possibly by William Woollett after the designs of John Donowell.
