Princess Patricia (1886-1974) was the daughter of Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught, the third son of Queen Victoria. The Duke was posted to Canada as Governor General in 1911. In 1914 Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry was raised and the Princess was very active in wartime fundraising, hosting concerts at Rideau Hall, including, in 1915, a performance by Dame Nellie Melba (1861-1931), which may be the occasion mentioned in Queen Mary's note.Provenance
