Indian dagger,chased gilt metal handle with diaper/flowerhead decoration,with two panels of emerald applied with gilt metal rivets enclosing rubies; pommel with point finial, burnished steel blade. Wooden scabbard with purple velvet, gilt metal mouthpiece and chape ending in bird's head.
Provenance
Acquired by Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh during his naval tour aboard HMS Galatea, 1867-72. Presented by the Rao of Kutch.
Loaned to the South Kensington Museum for display in April 1872, and illustrated in the Illustrated London News, 6 April 1872, p. 328. -
