This finely decorated hunting knife is an example of the skill of craftsmen working in Zlatoust in the first quarter of the nineteenth century. The quality competes with the best work from Europe, and pieces of this type were used as gifts by Russian Emperors to demonstrate Russian skill, taste and refinement.
Russian hunting knife, the haft consisting of steel mitre shaped pommel cap, the grip of reeded ivory with steel ferrule and socket, etched with neoclassical decoration. Straight one-edged blade etched in relief and blued and gilt in reserve on each face. Sheath.Provenance

Carlton House 'Catalogue of arms' gives the date on which the knife was received from Royal Lodge, Windsor Great Park, as 1 November 1825. -
