An Algerian flintlock pistol. The round/octagonal steel barrel partly chased with foliate scrolls, held to the barrel with a pierced silver band. The hardwood stock applied throughout with tear-shaped pieces of coral with engraved silver surrounds; chased silver mounts. Silver butt and trigger guard; base of lock gilt and plated.
Provenance
This may be one of the brace of pistols recorded in the North Corridor at Windsor Castle (WC Nrth Corr 749), which states they were presented to George IV by Lord Lauderdale, 18 May 1826 and kept in the Armoury at Carlton House (CH AA 3256).
