A desk calendar with an engagement photograph by Ghemar Freres of The Prince of Wales and Princess Alexandra of Denmark (later Edward VII & Queen Alexandra) surrounded by Gothic window and trailing ivy in watercolour, with moveable date strips; within rectangular faded red velvet frame tooled in gold with foliate scrolls.
Albert Edward, Prince of Wales - the son and heir of Queen Victoria - was betrothed to Princess Alexandra of Denmark in the gardens of the Royal Palace at Laeken, Brussels, on 9 September 1862. This calendar marks the date of the engagement and includes a photograph of the couple taken on the day. The calendar was made by the Prince's younger sister, Princess Louise.
