An oval jasperware plaque of dark blue dip mounted in an oval giltwood frame with glazing and suspension ring. The plaque with applied low white relief decoration of Tsar Alexander I of Russia and his brother Grand Duke Constantine, as young boys, facing left with loose robes pinned at their shoulders, their hair at shoulder length with some curls.
Provenance
Presented to George V by Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna of Russia, 1929. The Grand Duchess was then living in Frogmore Cottage, close to Windsor Castle, having left Russia in 1919. First recorded in the Royal Collection at Windsor Castle in an inventory of Wedgwood porcelain dated 1914 - 17, to which this piece was later added.
