Watercolour by Carl Haag (1820-1915) showing the encampment of the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII, at Baalbek during his tour of the Middle East in 1862. The painting shows the tents that make up the Prince's encampment with the ruins of the Temple of Jupiter and Mount Tabor in the distance. The artist Carl Haag had travelled himself in the Middle East in the late 1850s. After his return to Britain, the Prince of Wales commissioned Haag to paint this imagined scene of the royal encampment outside the ruins of Baalbek.
