Two wild ponies, one cream, the other, standing behind with its muzzle on the back of the other, a chestnut, standing in profile to the left in a stormy, mountainous landscape. Windswept saplings are on the slope to the right, and a pool of water to the left.
The painting was tentatively attributed to Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll (1838-1939) in the 1990s, although there doesn't appear to be any evidence for this.Provenance
First recorded in Buckingham Palace in the reign of Queen Elizabeth II
