E Rieck exhibited two seascapes in Suffolk Street, London, in 1858; one of a view in France, and the other of the Baltic. In 1898, a biograhpy by Friedrich von Boetticher mentions Rieck as residing in Dresden, but he is also known to have lived and worked near Fitzroy Square in London.
Rügen, a large island located off the Pomeranian coast in the Baltic Sea, is part of the German state of Mecklenburg-West Pomerania.
