Circular tortoiseshell box and cover. Glazed lid inset with miniature depicting winged figure of Time kneeling before a female figure representing the Arts. Chased gold rim. The lid of this box shows an allegory of the Arts triumphing over Time. The painting is the work of Jacques-Joseph de Gault, best known for his grisaille work on boxes of this type.
