This typical hunter’s still life in the manner of Jan Weenix is signed ‘P. IanSsens f’, which may refer to a little known artist, Petrus Janssens, who became a master of the Antwerp guild on 28 April 1750, but is not otherwise recorded.

Acquired by George IV in 1815; recorded in the store at Carlton House in 1819 valued at 40 guineas (no 223); taken to the King's Lodge (Royal Lodge) Windsor Park in 1824; in the Picture Gallery at Buckingham Palace in 1852 (no 127)
