This is a studio replica of the central section of the full-length portrait by Drouais dated 1763-4 in the National Gallery, London, re-presented in oval format. The sitter is shown working at embroidery stretched on green wooden frame. She wears white dress with floral pattern trimmed with lace and striped bows, lace cap on head tied under the chin also with striped bow.
Provenance
Acquired by George IV; recorded in the South Ante Room at Carlton House in 1819 (no 42), where it appears in Pyne's illustrated 'Royal Residences' of 1819 (RCIN 922182 and RCIN 922183).
