Queen Victoria bought this painting at the Female School of Art Drawings. The School was founded in 1842 with the aim of enabling ‘young women of the middle class to obtain an honourable and profitable employment’, according to The Times newspaper on 18 June 1862. Signed: 'M. E. Harding.' On the back is a label inscribed: 'From the Life.'
