Queen Victoria had visited Belvoir Castle in 1835. She wrote in her Journal: ‘To give an adequate idea and correct description of this fine place would be impossible. It is built upon a hill overlooking the country surrounded by trees at the bottom’. The Castle belonged to the Duke of Rutland.

Given to Queen Victoria by Lady Ravensworth in 1840; recorded in a bedroom in Edward III Tower (Room no 177) at Windsor Castle in 1879
