Photograph of HM Queen Elizabeth II (b.1926) leaning on the upper deck of HMY Britannia wearing a summer dress and sun shades. She laughs at Lichfield who has been 'ducked' in a pool on board ship and faces three-quarters right.
In 1971 Patrick Lichfield was invited by The Queen’s Press Secretary, William Heseltine, to join the royal party for a section of The Queen’s Far Eastern tour, to produce photographs to mark her Silver Wedding anniversary in November 1972. On the day that HMY Britannia crossed the Equator, Lichfield was soaped and ducked in the pool: ‘But’, he wrote, ‘I did have the wit to take a waterproof camera with me and when I came up for about the third time, I took a picture of The Queen up on the bridge laughing at me.’Provenance
