Photograph showing informal double portrait of HM The Queen (left) and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh (right) taken at Balmoral during the Silver Wedding Anniversary Celebrations.
Taken just after a barbecue lunch at Balmoral, this backlit double portrait was widely distributed, and was used in Australia for the Silver Jubilee stamps.
The photographer, the Earl of Lichfield, was the grandson of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother’s brother Jock, and thus The Queen’s first cousin once removed. He took a number of informal photographs of the Royal Family while staying at Balmoral, as well as the Christmas family group at the end of the same year, and a number of photographs on the Far Eastern tour at the beginning of the following year.Provenance
