Photogravure of Pamela (née Wyndham), Lady Tennant. Lady Tennant is posed working on her embroidery in this full length portrait. She is seated, and holds a long piece of embroidery featuring stylised roses, her hand positioned in the air to signal the process of pulling through thread with a needle. Beside her is a wicker basket holding thread. She wears a floor length dress with long, voluminous sleeves, a string of pearls, a chain and pearl earrings. Her hair is styled in a bun. The signature and address of the photographer Keturah Collings features in the bottom right hand corner.
Lady Tennant is described as an "extremely cultured woman" having written a number of books of verse and prose. Lady Tennant was depicted in the painting "The Wyndham Sisters" by John Singer Sargent (1899). She and her family belonged to the social group The Souls.Provenance
