Photograph of Tsesarevich Nicholas (1868-1918), later Nicholas II, and Grand Duke George Alexandrovich (1871-99). They are standing together with Grand Duke George on the right with his arms folded. Both boys are wearing sailor suits. There is a painted backdrop of the sea behind. The photograph is signed and dated. Nicholas II and Grand Duke George Alexandrovich were the eldest surviving sons of Alexander III, Emperor of Russia. Nicholas II was Emperor of Russia from 1894 until his enforced abdication in 1917. Along with his family he was murdered by the Bolsheviks in 1918. Grand Duke George Alexandrovich died as a young man after a period of ill health.
