This is a page from an album compiled by Princess Victoria, fourth child and second daughter of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. Known as 'Toria' by her family, she never married and remained a close companion to her mother until her death in 1925. The two shared a keen interest in photography and this album page shows Princess Victoria's typical way of organising her photographs: trying to maximise the space offered by the page, she combined her own snapshots with those of her mother, Queen Alexandra, together with photographs by A.K. Yagelsky, Russian court photographer and co-founder of C.E. de Hahn & Co. (active 1891-1916).
The photographs were taken during a State Visit to Reval (now Tallinn, Estonia), featuring British and Russian royal family members.Provenance
