Gibson was a Welsh Neo-classical sculptor who lived mostly in Italy. There are a number of his sculptures in the Royal Collection, particularly of Queen Victoria and Queen Alexandra when Princess of Wales (RCINs 2023, 2071, 2078), and a relief of Cupid and Psyche (RCIN 41062). On his death he bequeathed all his property and the contents of his studio to the Royal Academy, where his marbles and casts still remain.Provenance
