Frith was a Yorkshire-born painter specialising in genre subjects and panoramic narrative works of life in the Victorian era. He was part of the Clique group of painters which included John Phillip and Richard Dadd and he disliked the Pre-Raphaelite art and philosophy. Some of his most famous paintings are Ramsgate Sands in the Royal Collection (RCIN 405068), Derby Day (in Tate Britain) and The Railway Station (at Royal Holloway College, Egham).Provenance
