The photograph shows the future King George V (on the left) and his elder brother, later Duke of Clarence and Avondale, who died in 1892. They were entered together as cadets in the naval training ship 'Britannia' in September 1877, leaving her in 1879 to embark on a world cruise on board the training vessel HMS 'Bacchante'.
