Photograph of a pointed gateway of a mosque, known as the Jama'a al-Kebir, Nablus. Nablus is a town about 40 miles north of Jerusalem. The mosque, built on the site of a Christian basilica, was consecrated in 1187, when troops led by Salah ad-Din regained control of the region from the European Crusaders. The photograph is signed, captioned and dated in the negative, 'F Bedford Nabulous'. The number in the Day & Son series is 78.
