This photograph shows Bedford’s skill at composition. Perhaps inspired by the tiny shrine which looks like a sentry box, he has created a view of successive rectangular frames, one inside the other. By cropping the edge of the image to focus so closely on the gateway, he makes the final frame the edge of the photograph. The photograph is signed, captioned and dated in the negative, 'F Bedford Edfou'. The number in the Day & Son series is 26.
